Jay Vine

Vine was racing for the Australian Continental team Nero in 2020, and had already accepted an offer from ARA Pro Racing Sunshine Coast for the following season, when he won the 2020 Zwift Academy, the talent search run on the indoor racing platform. The prize was a contract with the Belgian ProTeam Alpecin-Fenix. He took that instead and turned professional at 25.

His first Grand Tour was the 2021 Vuelta a España, where he crashed while collecting food from the team car on the stage to Pico Villuercas and still finished third on the summit. He was 73rd overall. At the same race a year later he won two mountain stages, at Pico Jano and Colláu Fancuaya, and moved to UAE Team Emirates for 2023.

He won the Australian time trial title in January 2023 and the Tour Down Under later the same month, second on the road twice and eleven seconds clear of Simon Yates overall without winning a stage. His Grand Tour record has been built on mountains classifications and stage wins from the day's move rather than on a general classification place.

He crashed at the 2024 Itzulia Basque Country in April, on the stage whose descent crash also ended the races of Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič. He fractured a cervical vertebra and two thoracic vertebrae, and there was early doubt over whether he would walk again. He was racing again four months later, at the Vuelta a España, where he took the mountains classification without winning a stage.

At the 2025 Vuelta he won the same jersey again, this time with stage wins along the way: the Andorran summit finish at Pal, and El Ferial Larra Belagua in the Pyrenees four days later. UAE Team Emirates were riding that race for João Almeida, who finished second overall behind Jonas Vingegaard.
