The team at Velora is happy to announce the launch of Race Atlas, an interactive map of men’s and women’s Grand Tour racing across 20 seasons, from 2007 to 2026, that allows you to see the closest stages and climbs relative to your current location.
Beginning as a passion project, the Atlas maps more than 1,270 real stage routes alongside pages for 97 famous roads and climbs, across the men’s and women’s editions of the Vuelta, Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. You can follow a whole edition from its opening stage to the final standings, or start with a familiar mountain and explore its Grand Tour visits since 2007. While we have Tour de France data back to 2007, the full picture has been harder to capture for the Vuelta and Giro (let us know if you can direct us to available race data for missing years - info@veloracycling.com - and we’ll add it).
You can also start closer to home, or wherever you may find yourself on a cycling holiday. Allow location access, or place a pin on the map, and the Atlas ranks nearby stages and famous roads by distance. You can see whether a Grand Tour passed through your town, then follow the roads it took.
The routes trace the actual stage courses, so you can look beyond the start and finish towns. A place that never hosted a stage departure might still have years of racing running through it. Open a nearby route and you can see where it went, along with the result that day.
At a wider zoom, the map brings those individual roads together. You can look across the full period or narrow the view to one race and year. The map fills the screen, without navigation bars or adverts taking space away from the routes – on a phone, stage details open in a swipeable panel over it.
The Atlas includes men’s and women’s editions, although the smaller number of women’s races and stages means there is not parity in the overall number of routes mapped. The Giro d’Italia Women’s history extends back before the dataset’s 2007 starting point, while the current Tour de France Femmes began in 2022. The Vuelta Femenina began under an earlier identity in 2015 and took its current name in 2023.
Interruptions and changes in women’s racing therefore leave visible gaps in the map and edition history. Those reflect the races’ histories, rather than lesser Atlas coverage. Racing before 2007 sits outside the Atlas’s window for both men and women.
Revisit a race, stage by stage
Choose an edition and its route appears with numbered stages, letting you work through the race in order. The edition view brings together every stage’s elevation profile and the final general-classification top 10, alongside the jersey winners.
You can scan the profiles to see how the edition was arranged, then open a particular day to examine its course and result. Each stage includes the top 10 finishers and the general-classification leader that day, connecting the roads with the standings.

The 2026 Tour de France Femmes, for example, covered nine stages across Switzerland and France. Its route included a 21-kilometre individual time trial and a summit finish on Mont Ventoux. Selecting the edition puts those days within the complete race, rather than leaving each one as an isolated route or result.
Within a stage, moving along the elevation profile moves a corresponding point on the map. You can locate a summit or see how much road remained after a descent. Categorised climbs are listed too, so the profile has names and places attached to it.
With so much information on the page, we’ve tweaked the navigation as much as possible for mobile. If you follow a profile in the race details, the map will follow the midpoint, and even while in the full race profile view, a single finger pull up or down will zoom in and out on the map.
Explore a climb’s Grand Tour history
The 97 road and climb pages offer another starting point, including Alpe d’Huez and the Tourmalet. Each combines a written account with elevation profiles and a timeline of Grand Tour visits during the Atlas period, newest first.
Search for the Tourmalet and you can compare its raced approaches before following its record back through the editions. The profiles use a shared vertical scale, making differences between approaches visible without each being stretched to fill the same height.
The timeline then connects the climb to the races that crossed it. From there, you can open an individual stage to see the climb’s position on the route and the day’s result. The record begins in 2007; it is not a claim to cover every visit across the mountain’s racing history.
Each page also identifies climbs frequently used on the same stages, showing how a familiar summit fits into a longer mountain stage.
Route mapping drew on publicly accessible race road books. Results and classifications were compiled from Wikipedia race pages and UCI records. The overview uses a simplified version of the route geometry for speed, while opening a stage loads its full-resolution line.
When you find a stage or climb you want to send someone, copy the URL. The link preserves your selected view, so they can open the same roads.
The map is currently free to use, and completely ad-free. You can use the Race Atlas here, and don’t hesitate to suggest additions or let us know what you think.
