The squad was founded for the 1984 season as Kwantum-Decosol-Yoko, built around Jan Raas and a group of riders who came across from TI-Raleigh, and it has been Dutch-registered ever since. Title sponsors turned over roughly every three years through its first decade: Superconfex from 1987, Buckler from 1990, WordPerfect from 1993 and Novell in 1995. Rabobank took the name in 1996 and held it for seventeen seasons.

Denis Menchov won the Vuelta a España in 2007 and the Giro d'Italia in 2009 in Rabobank colours. That same 2007 Tour de France ended with Michael Rasmussen pulled out of the race by his own team while he was wearing the yellow jersey. Rabobank announced in October 2012, after the USADA report into doping in professional cycling, that it would stop funding the sport.

The team rode the opening months of 2013 without a title sponsor, racing as Blanco, found Belkin that June and became LottoNL-Jumbo for 2015. Primož Roglič joined in 2016 after switching across from ski jumping, and the stage-racing programme was built around him. He won the Vuelta in 2019, 2020 and 2021, and left at the end of 2023.

Jonas Vingegaard arrived from ColoQuick in 2019 and won the Tour de France in 2022 and 2023, with Tadej Pogačar second on both occasions. He was runner-up himself in 2021, 2024 and 2025, and won the Vuelta in 2025. In 2023 the team took all three Grand Tours in a single season, Roglič at the Giro, Vingegaard at the Tour and Sepp Kuss at the Vuelta.

Wout van Aert signed in 2019 and gave the squad a classics arm alongside the Grand Tour work, winning Milan-San Remo in 2020 and the Amstel Gold Race in 2021. The organisation took the Visma | Lease a Bike name for 2024, a rebrand applied to the men's and women's squads together. Simon Yates won the 2025 Giro in his first season with the team.
