Lorena Wiebes

Wiebes joined a cycling club in Mijdrecht at seven and raced mountain bike and cyclo-cross before the road took over. She won the Dutch junior road title in 2016 and the European junior title a year later, then turned professional with Parkhotel Valkenburg in 2018 and took her first win at nineteen. In 2019 she won all three stages and the overall at the Tour of Chongming Island, and beat Marianne Vos for the Dutch elite title.

Twenty-two wins that year left her tied to a team outside the top tier, and the argument over her contract reached the courts before Parkhotel agreed to release her at the end of May 2020. She went to Sunweb, later DSM, and won more races than any other woman in both 2021 and 2022. She then left early a second time, moving to SD Worx for 2023 under a clause that let her weigh up better offers.

Lotte Kopecky takes her into the final kilometre at SD Worx, and on the days that suit the Belgian, Wiebes leads her out instead. She wins on a short, violent acceleration rather than a long wind-up, and holds a wheel through crosswinds and cobbled sectors well enough to still be there at Gent-Wevelgem and Brugge-De Panne. Long climbs take her out, so her grand tour work is stages and points jerseys.

She won the opening stage of the first Tour de France Femmes in 2022 and was the first woman to wear its yellow jersey. European road titles came in 2022 and 2024. In July 2024 she was thrown off the Giro d'Italia Women hours after winning stage one, her bike 20 grams under the UCI weight limit. A month later the Dutch team rode the Olympic road race for her and she was gone before the finale.

She won Gent-Wevelgem in March 2025, then took the revived Milan-San Remo Donne, two Tour de France Femmes stages, two Giro stages and the points jersey, another Dutch title and five of six stages at the Simac Ladies Tour, twenty-five road wins in all. Autumn brought the gravel world title and, in Santiago, the scratch and omnium. Her SD Worx contract runs to 2028.
