Florian Lipowitz

Lipowitz grew up in Laichingen, in the Swabian Alps, and came to cycling through biathlon. He followed his brother into the sport at seven or eight, the family living close to a biathlon arena, and at fourteen moved to a boarding school in Austria to train. A run of injuries, including a knee problem, closed off the winter-sport route, and by 2020 he had switched to the road.

The Austrian Continental team Tirol KTM took him on that year, and he raced there through 2022. Bora-hansgrohe signed him as a stagiaire that August and kept him on a two-year contract. His first professional win came at the 2023 Czech Tour, where he took stage two, the points classification and the overall.

He was third at the Tour de Romandie in 2024, his first podium at a WorldTour stage race. His Grand Tour debut at the Giro d'Italia that May ended with an abandon after stage five. He came back at the Vuelta a España as a climbing domestique for Primož Roglič and finished seventh overall himself, second in the young rider classification.

In 2025 he was second at Paris-Nice behind Matteo Jorgenson, then third at the Critérium du Dauphiné behind Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard. He went to the Tour de France as Roglič's support rider and came out of it as Red Bull's leader. Roglič conceded the lead role during the race, and Lipowitz moved into third overall and the white jersey on the stage to Luchon-Superbagnères.

He held that place to Paris and won the white jersey, the first German on the Tour podium since Andreas Klöden. It was close at the end: he lost ground to Oscar Onley in the final week before taking it back on stage nineteen. He then ended his season rather than riding the Vuelta or the World Championships, and signed a long-term extension with Red Bull in December.
