The UCI’s 2027 calendar lists a new Slovenian one-day race and a Tour of Slovenia shortened from five days to four.
Premium Alpine Race is scheduled for June 15 as a category 1.1 event. The Tour of Slovenia follows from June 17–20, leaving a day between the races.
According to Slovenian outlet Peloton, the new event is expected to finish in Bled, but its route and organiser have yet to be announced. It would be Slovenia’s first one-day race at 1.1 level.
Teams travelling to Slovenia could contest both events during the same visit. The combined schedule would offer the same five competition days as the Tour’s previous format, spread across two races within a six-day period.
The 2026 Tour of Slovenia ran from June 17–21 over five stages, starting in Velenje and finishing in Novo mesto. Its organisers have yet to explain the shorter format or say whether it is connected to the launch of Premium Alpine Race.
A 1.1 classification permits WorldTour teams to take part, with their representation capped at 50% of the field under UCI rules. Eligibility also extends to national teams, as well as ProTeams, Continental teams and teams competing professionally in UCI cyclo-cross.
A race project in Kranj planned for 2026 was abandoned during the season because of financial difficulties.
A similar calendar change is schedule in Croatia, where a new one-day race in Split, CRO Race Classic, would precede a CRO Race shortened from six days to five.
Pairing a shorter stage race with a separate one-day event could give teams another opportunity to earn UCI points during the same trip. That may be part of the appeal, but it remains a possible explanation rather than a confirmed reason for either calendar change.
