Remco Evenepoel's coach to leave Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe after 10 years

The 46-year-old Luxembourger, described by CEO Ralph Denk as the team's first performance coach, departs at the end of July but maintains his direct coaching link with Remco Evenepoel.

Dan Lorang will leave Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe at the end of July 2026 after a decade with the German squad, the team confirmed on April 7.

The 46-year-old Luxembourger will continue coaching Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe) for the immediate future, according to Belgian outlet HLN, despite his departure from the team structure.

Team CEO Ralph Denk described Lorang as the organisation's first performance coach and credited him with helping shape the squad's rise to WorldTour level. "As our team’s first Performance Coach, Dan has played a key role since the 2017 season in shaping our rise to the top of the WorldTour and in developing numerous athletes," Denk said.

The exit has been developing for more than a year. In March 2025, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe announced that Lorang would begin coaching Red Bull athletes across all endurance sports while maintaining links to the cycling team. That arrangement positioned him inside Red Bull's broader performance network, working with triathletes and other endurance athletes alongside his existing cycling responsibilities.

The April 7 announcement marks a cleaner break from the team itself, outside the Red Bull structure altogether, with Lorang's departure date set for the end of July.

Speaking in March 2025, when Lorang initially moved to a broader role within Red Bull, he said he was grateful for the trust he had received across his various roles. "Nine years ago, Ralph Denk gave me the opportunity to become part of an incredibly exciting project," he said. "That's why I am even more excited to remain connected to the team in the future while also continuing to pursue my passion for coaching within the Red Bull universe."

That continuity lasted for only one year, though, with Lorang's next role yet to be confirmed.

The most immediate sporting consequence is that Evenepoel's coaching setup remains stable, at least in the short term. The Belgian began working with Lorang after parting ways with long-time coach Koen Pelgrim, who had guided him since 2018. Following July, Evenepoel will need a new principal coach, though.

Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has undergone a wider performance overhaul over the last two seasons. Dan Bigham was brought in to head the engineering and aerodynamics programme in late 2024, while John Wakefield – who has been with the squad since 2022 – was promoted in October 2025 to lead coaching, sports science, and technology.

How those roles absorb Lorang's remaining team-side responsibilities after July, and whether his direct coaching of Evenepoel extends beyond the near term, has not been detailed by the team.
