A Maurienne ski station reached by the D78 above Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, finishing at La Toussuire – Les Sybelles — a regular summit finish that has repeatedly cracked open the Tour's overall battle.

    Won by Vincenzo Nibali (ITA)

    Defending champion Nibali, out of the GC picture, attacked over the Col de la Croix de Fer and soloed to La Toussuire, while Chris Froome held firm in yellow.

    Won by Pierre Rolland (FRA)

    Rolland soloed to a home win; behind, Chris Froome rode away from race leader and team-mate Bradley Wiggins before being ordered to wait — a rare public glimpse of Team Sky's internal tension.

    Stage 16 · Le Bourg-d'Oisans → La Toussuire

    Won by Michael Rasmussen (DEN)

    Race leader Floyd Landis cracked dramatically on the climb, hemorrhaging over ten minutes and the yellow jersey to Óscar Pereiro — the collapse that set up Landis's infamous stage 17 comeback the next day. Rasmussen won atop La Toussuire.
