Isaac Del Toro Romero

Del Toro grew up in Ensenada, on the Pacific coast of Baja California, where his father raced as an amateur and put him and his brother on bikes young. He rode mountain bike, cyclo-cross and road as a junior before joining the Mexican development squad A.R. Monex, which gave him a route into European racing from a country with almost no professional structure. He has credited Egan Bernal's 2019 Tour de France win with making the sport feel reachable.

He won the 2023 Tour de l'Avenir, taking a stage and the overall, points and mountains classifications, the first Mexican to win the under-23 race. UAE Team Emirates signed him that October. On his first outing for the team, at the Tour Down Under in January 2024, he won stage 2 and finished third overall. He took the Vuelta a Asturias in April and rode the Vuelta a España that summer as his first Grand Tour.

He went to the 2025 Giro d'Italia to work for Juan Ayuso. He attacked on the gravel roads into Siena on stage 9 and took the maglia rosa, the first Mexican to lead the race, and held it for eleven stages. Ayuso abandoned and the order never reverted. On stage 20 he marked Richard Carapaz instead of chasing Simon Yates over the Colle delle Finestre and lost the race there. He won stage 17 and finished second overall.

He won sixteen races in 2025, among them the Vuelta a Burgos, Milano-Torino in March, and the Giro dell'Emilia, Gran Piemonte and Giro del Veneto in October, with fifth at Il Lombardia in between. Ayuso won eight, and left UAE at the end of the season for Lidl-Trek after what the team called differences over its sporting philosophy.

He rode into the early move with Tadej Pogačar at the world championships in Kigali in September and finished seventh, dropped on the cobbles of Kimihurura with 66 kilometres left. He ended the year third in the UCI world ranking, behind Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard. In late October, after the road season had closed, he won both Mexican national titles at home in Ensenada, the time trial on a course routed through the roads he learned to ride on.
