A little col with a nasty streak: 10.8 km at 5% from Servance is an average that hides everything, because the road above Miellin kicks past 15% and touches 18%. It exists in Tour history for one reason — it is the gatekeeper to La Planche des Belles Filles. Both times the race has crossed it, it dropped straight down to Plancher-les-Mines and started the Planche within minutes.

The last climb before the finish again, a category 2 this time and the sixth of seven on the day. Teuns took the stage from the break on the Planche's new gravel ramp, and Giulio Ciccone came away with the yellow jersey by six seconds.

The Chevrères' Tour debut, part of Christian Prudhomme's push to race the massifs beyond the Alps and Pyrenees: 'I like to use the other massifs than the usual Alps and Pyrenees. I believe the race can be won and lost anytime.' Joaquim Rodríguez was first over; Nibali won on the Planche an hour later and re-took yellow for good.
