Douglas Ryder set the squad up after the South African WorldTeam he had built around the Qhubeka charity folded at the end of 2021. The UCI granted a ProTeam licence in December 2022, and the team raced its first season in 2023, registered in Switzerland. Vincenzo Nibali came in as technical advisor and the former Giro stage winner Gabriele Missaglia as an assistant directeur sportif. The roster came from riders released by WorldTour squads and others stepping up from below.
The first two seasons were built on smaller races. Mark Donovan won the Sibiu Cycling Tour overall in 2023, Matteo Moschetti took the Clásica de Almería and the Grand Prix d'Isbergues the same year, and Nickolas Zukowsky became Canadian road race champion. The 2024 season brought national titles for David de la Cruz in the Spanish time trial and Negasi Haylu Abreha in the Ethiopian road race.
Signing Tom Pidcock from INEOS Grenadiers for 2025 changed what the team was aiming at. Pidcock won the AlUla Tour overall in January 2025 and a stage of the Vuelta a Andalucía in February. Fabio Christen took the Vuelta a Murcia the same month and a stage of the Tour of Slovenia, and Rory Townsend won the Irish road race title, part of eleven wins across the season.
The squad took a wildcard to the 2025 Giro d'Italia, its first Grand Tour, where Pidcock finished 16th. It rode the Vuelta a España later that year, where Pidcock was third overall behind Jonas Vingegaard and João Almeida.
It raced as Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team from 2023 to 2025, named for the cycling clothing brand that had backed it from the start. Pinarello arrived for 2026 as bike supplier and joint title sponsor, taking over from Scott on the bike side, and the squad became Pinarello-Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team. Holding a ProTeam licence rather than a WorldTeam one, it has reached the biggest races by invitation rather than by right.
